Did you give your zakat al-fitr??

What is zakat al-fitr ? (From Sunnah)

Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) enjoined zakaat al-fitr as a purification for the fasting person from idle and obscene speech, and to feed the poor. Whoever gives it before the prayer(eid), it is zakaat al-fitr, and whoever gives it after the prayer(eid), it is ordinary charity. This was narrated by Abu Dawood and classed as hasan by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood.

When should it be paid?

Zakat al-fitr becomes obligatory when the sun sets on the last day of Ramadan, and must be paid before the Eid prayer.

It is permissible to pay it two or three days before that, if need be.

Who should  paid and what is to be paid? (From Sunnah)

In al-Saheehayn it is narrated that Abu Sa’eed al-Khudri (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: At the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) we used to give one saa’ of food, or one saa’ of dates, or one saa’ of barley, or one saa’ of raisins.

This is indicated by the report narrated by Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) enjoined zakaat al-fitr, a saa‘ of dates or a saa‘ of barley, on behalf of free and slave, male and female, young and old, among the Muslims.
Narrated by al-Bukhaari (1503), Muslim (984).

being a Muslim is a condition of zakat al-fitr being obligatory, and that it is not required of the disbeliever on his own behalf.

Let's consider these during Congregational Prayer ( jama"ah) .....

I thought of writing this article just to remind my blog readers about a sunnah which could be called forgotten or ignored by some of us while performed by some others. And theses ahaahadeeth are so important as we need to apply theses sunnah in our daily life as we are supposed to pray five times a day...

It was narrated from ‘Abd-Allaah ibn ‘Umar that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Make your rows straight, stand shoulder to shoulder and close the gaps, and do not resist your brothers’ hands. Do not leave any gaps for the Shaytaan. Whoever complete a row, Allaah will reward him, and whoever breaksa row, Allaah will forsake him.
(Abu Dawood, 666; al-Nasaa’i, 819.)

It was narrated that al-Nu’maan ibn Basheer said: “The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) turned to face the people and said, ‘Straighten your rows,’ three times, ‘for by Allaah either you straighten your rows or Allaah will create division among your hearts.’ And I saw men standing shoulder to shoulder, knee to knee, ankle to ankle.” Narrated by Abu Dawood, 662

These ahaadeeth clearly indicate the importance of making the rows straight, which is part of the perfection of congregation  prayer; they indicate that people should not stand back (from the row) or in front of (the row), and that they should stand shoulder to shoulder, foot to foot and knee to knee with their neighbours and it is sunnah which would be rewarded by Allah immensely!

And i would love to include this hadeeth too : the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “When I command you to do something, do as much of it as you can.” [Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 7288; Muslim, 1227].
