Today I am here writing this article to make sure we benefit this Ramadhan in its best form and as a reminder for Muslims around the world and to inform a few of the virtues of Ramadhan with hadeeths. Recently I went through an article on a newspaper which selected four young Muslim brothers who do not fast and interviewed why weren't they fasting while we have millions of young Muslims fasting! So I thought of writing why we Muslims(young and old ) Fast! I know it could even make few people understand the wisdom behind a fasting Muslim.
1.Fasting completes my faith, as it is one of the five pillars of Islam and fasting make me an obedient creation to the creator (Allah)
- It was narrated from the hadeeth of Ibn ‘Umar that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Islam is built on five (pillars): the testimony that there is no god except Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah; establishing prayer; paying zakaah; fasting Ramadaan; and Hajj to the House (the Ka’bah).”(al-Bukhaari, 8; Muslim, 16)
- The month of Ramadhan [is that] in which was revealed the Qur'an, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion. So whoever sights [the new moon of] the month, let him fast it; (2:185)
- It was narrated that Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: “The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: ‘Allaah says: “Every deed of the son of Adam is for him, except for fasting; it is for Me and I shall reward for it.”
2. Allaah revealed the Qur’aan in this month, and also known as month of Quran
- The month of Ramadhan [is that] in which was revealed the Qur'an, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion. (2:185)
- “Verily, We have sent it (this Qur’aan) down in the Night of Al-Qadr (Decree).(97:1)
- Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night(month of Ramadhan). Indeed, We were to warn [mankind].(44:33)
- Abu Hurayrah (radhiallahu anhu) narrated that the Messenger (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said: "Whoever stands (in qiyaam) in Laylat ul-Qadr [and it is facilitated for him] out of faith and expectation (of Allah's reward), will have all of his previous sins forgiven." [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

5. Allaah opens the gates of Paradise and closes the gates of Hell, and chains up the devils; so one could make ample of acts of worship!

6. Every night Allah has people whom He redeems from the Fire.
- Imam Ahmad (5/256) narrated from the hadeeth of Abu Umaamah that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “At every breaking of the fast, Allah has people whom He redeems.” Al-Mundhiri said: there is nothing wrong with its isnaad; and it was classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Targheeb, 987.
- It was narrated from Sahl ibn Sa’d (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “In Paradise there are eight gates, among which is a gate called al-Rayyaan, which none will enter but those who fast.” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 3017)

9.Fasting will be an intercession for the slave on the Day of Resurrection
- Fasting will be an intercession for the slave on the Day of Resurrection, when it will say: O Lord, I stopped him from eating and drinking during the day, so let me intercede for him.(Reported by Ahmad, 2/174)
10. Fasting will save us from hellfire and admit us to paradise!
- Whoever fasts one day for the sake of Allah, Allah will keep his face seventy years distance away from the Fire because of it.(Reported by Muslim, 2/808)
- Whoever fasts a day seeking the pleasure of Allah and then dies [i.e. that is the last thing he does] will enter Paradise.(Reported by Ahmad, 5/391)
