A True believer vs Covid-19 which is known as corona virus!

I am sure most of us are aware of  Covid-19 – the illness that started in Wuhan; and know the prevention methods too; such as wearing the mask, washing hand, etc..but my Article is going to be about how a Muslim should react to Covid-19 or any other infectious diseases.

What should I do when the land I live is affected?
We can find answers to such question easily without any doubts from authentic hadeeths. There are hadiths from the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) that forbid the Muslim to enter a land in which the plague is occurring, and also forbid him to leave the land in which the plague is occurring.

Al-Bukhaari (5739) and Muslim (2219) narrated from ‘Abd ar-Rahmaan ibn ‘Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) say: “If you hear that it (the plague) is in a land, do not go there, and if it breaks out in a land where you are, do not leave, fleeing from it.”

Al-Bukhaari (3473) and Muslim (2218) narrated that Usaamah ibn Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “The plague is a calamity (or a punishment) that was sent upon the Children of Israel, or upon those who came before you. If you hear of it in some land, do not go there, and if it breaks out in a land where you are, do not leave, fleeing from it.”

These hadiths indicate that it is prohibited to go to the land where the plague is occurring, and to leave that land, fleeing from it.

okay what is plague?
It was said that what is meant by the word taa‘oon (translated here as plague) is a specific disease that is known to the scholars and doctors. It was also said that it refers to any widespread disease (epidemic) that leads to the death of many people.

The correct view, as noted by the scholars, is that it is any sickness that affects many people in one part of the land, but not all of it; differs from ordinary diseases in the large number of people affected and in other ways; and where they are all affected by the same kind of sickness, unlike at other times, when people suffer from different kinds of sickness.

what does Islam say about the believer who is affected by such diseases?

We need to treat the disease as there is cure for every disease Insha Allah..
We can find answers to such question easily  from authentic hadeeths when we find it as calamity or hardship. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) has told us that bearing hardships and calamities with patience is something that can only be done by those who have achieved true faith. Trials and calamities are a test, and are a sign of Allaah’s love for a person. They are like medicine: even if it is bitter, you offer it despite its bitterness to one whom you love .

It was narrated that Subhayb al-Roomi (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “How wonderful is the affair of the believer, for his affair is all good, and this applies to no one except the believer. If something good happens to him, he gives thanks and that is good for him, and if something bad happens to him, he bears it with patience, and he will be rewarded for that, so everything that Allaah has decreed for the Muslim is good.”Narrated by Muslim, 2999.
According to another  saheeh hadeeth: “The greatest reward comes with the greatest trial. When Allaah loves a people He tests them. Whoever accepts that wins His pleasure but whoever is discontent with that earns His wrath.” Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 2396; Ibn Maajah, 4031; classed as saheeh by Shaykh al-Albaani.

Ibn Mas'ud (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:I visited the Prophet (ﷺ) when he was suffering fever. I said, "You seem to be suffering greatly, O Messenger of Allah." The Prophet (ﷺ) replied, "Yes, I suffer as much as two persons." I said, "Is that because you have a double reward?" He replied that that was so and then said, "No Muslim is afflicted by a harm, be it the pricking of a thorn or something more (painful than that), but Allah thereby causes his sins to fall away just as a tree sheds its leaves".[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

And Allah says "And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to the patient,Who, when disaster strikes them, say, "Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return."(Surah al Baqara verse 155 -156)
