Maryam (as) (Mary the mother of Jesus ) in light of Islam !!

Assalamu Alaikum warahmathullahi wa barakathuhu,
I am writing this article first of all to empower my self and sisters who really needed this little motivation to improve their lives , while we as Muslim women are misguided by fake delusions of the world around us. And hopefully this article will help my sisters and brothers of other religion to understand the status of Maryam (alai) that Mary mother of Jesus in light of Islam. I am trying my best to mention few details using verses of Quran and hadeeths of prophet (PBUH).

Maryam (as)(Maryam bint Imran ) is a shining role model for all of us, both men and women. Allah most High chose Maryam(as) the mother of Isa over all the women of the world and gave her a special status.

Allah describes her as being among al qaniteen – the devoutly obedient.

The term Qanit (قانت), meaning one who humbly and continuously worships Allah, has been referred to both men and women in the Quran concerning virtuous servants of God. This term has been used about Maryam twice:

وَمَرْيَمَ ٱبْنَتَ عِمْرَٰنَ ٱلَّتِىٓ أَحْصَنَتْ فَرْجَهَا فَنَفَخْنَا فِيهِ مِن رُّوحِنَا وَصَدَّقَتْ بِكَلِمَـٰتِ رَبِّهَا وَكُتُبِهِۦ وَكَانَتْ مِنَ ٱلْقَـٰنِتِين
˹There is˺ also ˹the example of˺ Mary, the daughter of ’Imrân, who guarded her chastity, so We breathed into her ˹womb˺ through Our angel ˹Gabriel˺.1 She testified to the words of her Lord and His Scriptures, and was one of the ˹sincerely˺ devout.

O Mary! Be devout to your Lord, prostrate yourself ˹in prayer˺ and bow along with those who bow down.”

Maryam’s (as) name alone is mentioned 31 times in the Qur’an.

She is the only woman mentioned by name in the Qur’an. Allah mentions her name even when He isn’t telling her story, since Allah repeatedly says ″Isa, son of Maryam’ in many places. She is far from forgotten - in fact, she is one of the most famous people in the history of humankind. On top of that, Sayyidatina Maryam was titled to be among the best women in both worlds; her story in the Quran is eternalised and would be read repeatedly as a virtuous example for many until the end of time.

She was among the best four women of the world
And ˹remember˺ when the angels said, “O Mary! Surely Allah has selected you, purified you, and chosen you over all women of the world.

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“From among the women of the world who have reached perfection and who are worthy of following are (the following four): Maryam the daughter of Imran; Khadijah daughter of Khuwaylid; Fatima daughter of Muhammad and Asiyah wife of Fir’aun” (Tirmidhi).

She was among the truthful and ones who believed Allah

Allah mentioned these characteristics of Maryam(as)

The Messiah, son of Mary, was no more than a messenger. ˹Many˺ messengers had ˹come and˺ gone before him. His mother was a woman of truth.(5:75)
She testified to the words of her Lord and His Scriptures, and was one of the ˹sincerely˺ devout.(66:12)

She also exemplifies the best of modesty for both men and women.

Maryam (as) was placed in the care of Prophet Zakariyya (as), who was her uncle (the husband of her maternal aunt). This was because Hannah had vowed to ‘set her free’ so she could devote her life to serving the Masjid. [Tafseer Ibn Katheer]

Maryam’s(as)guardian Prophet Zakariya (as) built a space for her where she was constantly in remembrance of Allah. As Maryam (as) grew up, she naturally spent a lot of time in secluded worship. Closed away in her private prayer room, Zakariyya (as) was amazed that there was always food coming into the room; he found food that was out of season and when he asked where it came from,

she said “It is from Allah, Surely Allah provides for whoever He wills without limit (Surah al-Imran 3:37)

She was symbolic of her piety and modesty

As described in Surah Maryam ayat 16 to 34, when approached by an angel in the form of a well-proportioned man, she immediately sought refuge in Allah the most Merciful, symbolic of her piety and modesty.
Then We sent to her Our angel, ˹Gabriel,˺ appearing before her as a man, perfectly formed. She appealed, “I truly seek refuge in the Most Compassionate from you! ˹So leave me alone˺ if you are God-fearing.” (19:16 &17)

Allah proved her innocence by a miracle performed by Prophet Isa a.s.

After the birth of Jesus, Maryam (as) faced incredible hardship. Even though she was a young woman of faith, She was then accused of engaging in immoral acts that never once crossed or resided in her mind, and she still kept firm and trusted that Allah would prove her innocence and goodness would come out of this trial. When the townspeople surrounded and questioned her she followed God’s instructions and did not speak.  Allah proved her innocence by a miracle performed by Prophet Isa a.s. when he verbally proved his mother’s innocence while he was still an infant.

”O sister of Aaron! Your father was not a man of evil, nor your mother a woman unchaste!” But she pointed to the baby. They said: “How can we talk to one who is a child in the cradle?” He (the baby) said: “I am indeed a servant of Allah: He has given me revelation and made me a prophet.”(Surah Maryam, 19:28-30)

Few Reminders on how should one (Muslim) deal with snakes !!

Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuhu. This article was inspired when a friend of mine had a question related to snake during a session when we were sitting to remember Allah. As Muslims we really need to know what are We supposed to do when there is a snake. Most of us face such situation of encountering a snake at home , back yard, during cultivation, cleaning , gardening even during travelling etc; so what are we supposed to do in such situation, what does Islam says about it, Let us learn this in the light of Quran and Sunnah.

The Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) enjoined the killing of snakes, and this is general in meaning and applies to all kinds of snakes, in any place. But if the snake is inside the house, it should not be killed until it has been warned three times; that is because of the possibility that it may be a jinn.

What does Islam say about People who says Do not kill Snake as it will revenge?

(5249) narrated that Ibn Mas‘ood said: The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Kill all the snakes, and whoever fears their revenge does not belong to me.”
Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood

It was narrated from Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that he heard the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) address the people from the minbar, saying: “Kill snakes.”
‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar said: After that, I would not leave any snake that I saw but I would kill it.Narrated by al-Bukhaari (3299) and Muslim (3233)

Narrated Ibn `Umar:That he heard the Prophet (ﷺ) delivering a sermon on the pulpit saying, "Kill snakes and kill Dhu-at- Tufyatain (i.e. a snake with two white lines on its back) and Al-Abtar (i.e. a snake with short or mutilated tail) for they destroy the sight of one's eyes and bring about abortion." (`Abdullah bin `Umar further added): Once while I was chasing a snake in order, to kill it, Abu Lubaba called me saying: "Don't kill it," I said. "Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) ordered us to kill snakes." He said, "But later on he prohibited the killing of snakes living in the houses." (Az-Zuhri said. "Such snakes are called Al-Awamir.")Sahih al-Bukhari 3297, 3298

What do you do when you find a snake at your residence ?

Muslim (2233) narrated that Naafi‘ said: One day ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar was was at a ruin of his, when he saw the flash of a small snake. He said: Find this snake and kill it. Abu Lubaabah al-Ansaari said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) forbid killing the small snakes that live in houses, except the short-tailed snake and the one with two stripes, for they are the ones that cause blindness and miscarriages.

And Muslim (2236) narrated that Abu’s-Saa’ib said: We entered upon Abu Sa‘eed al-Khudri, and whilst we were sitting there, we heard a movement beneath the bed. We looked and saw a snake… and he quoted the hadith, in which it says: The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “These houses have inhabitants. If you see any of them, ask them to leave for three days. If it goes (all well and good), otherwise kill it, for it is a kaafir.”

Ibn ‘Abd al-Barr said:It is preferable that all snakes that are found in houses should be warned, as Maalik said. What is meant by warning is that the person who sees a snake in his house should say: I urge you, O snake, not to appear before us or harm us. End quote.

The Shaafi‘i scholar Ibn Hajar Al-Haytami (Rahmahullah) wrote, "As for the snakes that reside inside houses, they are not to be killed until they have been warned thrice. The scholars held different views as whether the intended meaning is three days or three times. The first is the view adopted by the majority of the scholars ... The most likely correct view is that warning (the harmless house snake) is recommended, though the statements of some Hanbali scholars suggested that it is obligatory..." [Al-Fataawa Al-Fiqhiyyah Al-Kubra]

As for the fact that these snakes may harm people and may be poisonous, if their harm is feared, then the harm must be eliminated even by killing them from the first time (without warning). If they are of a kind known to be poisonous and it is feared that they would harm people, it is allowed to kill them. Al-Qurtubi  (Rahmahullah) wrote about the command to warn snakes before killing them, "The command in this regard is not an obligation; if the harm is certain, it must be eliminated."

Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (Rahmahullah) said regarding killing the snake even if done in the first time, "He warns it three times by saying to it: I warn you not to be in my house, or similar words... If the snake attacked him, he has the right to ward it off, even if it leads to killing it as long as warding off its harm cannot be done except by killing it or its attack cannot be stopped except by killing it. It is allowed to kill it in this situation because it is considered self-defense."

What about Snakes outside the house?

So there is nothing wrong with you killing snakes that are outside the house and scholars agreed that snakes should not be warned if they are found in the desert if you feel unsafe from it. As for those that are found inside the house, they should not be killed until they have been warned.

Honor of Being a Student of Knowledge!!

Assalamu Alaikum warahmathullahi wa barakathuhu my dear readers (Brothers and Sisters in islam) I am writing this article as I find most of us are not aware of importance of seeking knowledge, If we ask someone among us to seek beneficial knowledge they say "we know how to pray, that is enough" and they ignore our request, some others they say it is not that important. Lets check how important it is to seek knowledge through the words of Allah and sayings of prophet Muhammad (pbuh).
  • The first verse of Quran was "Read"
which shows the learning is so important to understand the creator which leads to worshipping the creator“Read!in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created – Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood: Proclaim! And thy Lord is Most Bountiful, He Who taught (the use of) the pen, Taught man that which he knew not” [Quran, 96:1-5].
  • It is our duty to seek knowledge
Anas ibn Malik reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim(Sunan Ibn Mājah)
  • Allah guide them to the Straight path
This should be every muslims Dua to ask Allah to guide them in the Straight path. That is one of the Dua we say at least 17 times in our prayer when Surah al Fathiha is recited.
“And those who strive in Our (cause), – We will certainly guide them to our Paths: For verily Allah is with those who do right” [Quran, 29:69].
  • Allah Almighty raised the ranks of true people of knowledge
Elevated their status revealing the importance of knowledge and people bearing it,
God will raise up, by many degrees, those of you who believe and those who have been given knowledge: He is fully aware of what you do. [Qur’an, 58:11]
  • Makes the path to Paradise easy for him
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:Whoever takes a path upon which to obtain knowledge, Allah makes the path to Paradise easy for him (Bukhari and Muslim).click to read about Paradise
  • To be in on the way of Allah (fee sabeel)
Anas ibn Malik reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:Whoever goes out seeking knowledge is in the way of Allah until he returns.(Sunnan at thirmidhi)

  • Allah directed Rasoolulluah to Pray to increase the knowledge!
Knowledge is among the most important things as Allah (SWT) directed Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to pray to increase the knowledge. Allah (SWT) says in the Holy Qur’an: "And say: My Lord, increase me in knowledge." (Qur’an 20:114)
  • Beneficial knowledge can bless us more rewarding even after our death
Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said: “When a man dies all his deeds come to an end except for three: an ongoing charity, beneficial knowledge and a righteous son who prays for him.” (Al-Bukhari)
  • Make us feel more humble before the greatness of the creation of Allah (SWT).
“It is only those who have knowledge among His servants that fear Allah." (Qur’an 35:28)
  • To guard ourselves against the evil
“…they could devote themselves to studies in religion, and admonish the people when they return to them, – that thus they (may learn) to guard themselves (against evil)” [Quran, 9:122].
  • To receive blessings of angels, inhabitant of heavens and the earth!!
We need to learn to teach others good which can bring blessings of angels and inhabitant of heavens and the earth!!The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The virtue of the scholar over the worshiper is like my virtue over the least of you. Verily, Allah, his angels, the inhabitants of the heavens and earth, even the ant in his hole and the fish, send blessings upon the one who teaches people what is good.(Tirmidhi)
  • Rasullulah loved seeking of knowledge
Sa’d ibn Abi Waqqas reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:The virtue of knowledge is more beloved to me than the virtue of worship, and the best of your religion is piety.al-Ādāb lil-Bayhaqī

Alhamdullilah i have listed few virtues of seeking knowledge. Hope you benefited from this article and please share your knowledge with your friend too.

ECLIPS a Warning!!

Praise be to Allah who has bestowed on us the grace of the sun and moon, Peace be upon our prophet Muhammad the best of those who carried the message for human beings, and peace be upon his family, companions and upon all those who feared standing before their Lord....

What is the Islamic view on Eclipse?

Allah's Apostle said, "The sun and the moon are two signs amongst the signs of Allah. They do not eclipse because of someone's death or life. So when you see them, invoke Allah and pray till the eclipse is clear." [Agreed upon and this exact narration is for Muslim]

"The sun eclipsed at the life-time of Allah's Apostle on the day when (his son) Ibrahim died. So the people said that the sun had eclipsed because of the death of Ibrahim. Allah's Apostle said, "The sun and the moon do not eclipse because of the death or life (i.e. birth) of some-one. When you see the eclipse pray and invoke Allah." [Al-Bukhari]

He (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The sun and the moon are two of the signs of Allaah; they do not become eclipsed for the death or life of anyone. If you see that then call upon Allaah and magnify Him, and pray, and give in charity.”

When an eclipse happened, mumins would be afraid that is a warning of impending disaster, so they would turn to Allaah and pray to Him to ward off that which they feared. The scholars also explained that an eclipse may be a sign or a cause of something bad happening to people. People do not necessarily know of the events which Allaah causes to happen at the time of an eclipse, and some people may know about that whilst others do not ,but Surely Allah the creater of the universe is aware of everything.

Solar and lunar eclipses are two of the signs of Allaah with which He scares His slaves and reminds them of some of the things which will happen on the Day of Resurrection,

And the sight will be dazed, the moon will be eclipsed and the sun and moon will be joined together (by going into one another, or folded up, or deprived of their light) Man will say on that Day, "Where is the [place of] escape?" (al-Qiyaamah 75:8-9).

when the sun will be wound round and will lose its light and be overthrown and the stars will fall (cf. al-Takweer 81:1&2)

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to fear Allaah very much, and one day he came out in an agitated state, thinking that the Hour had begun, when the sun was eclipsed during his lifetime.

What is requested from every Muslim at the time solar or lunar eclipse?

Allah's Apostle said, "The sun and the moon do not eclipse because of the death or life (i.e. birth) of some-one. When you see the eclipse pray and invoke Allah." [Al-Bukhari]

In another narration:" so pray whenever you see them." [Narrated by Muslim]

"when you see the eclipse, remember Allah and say Takbir (to say Allah Akbar), pray and give Sadaqa (charity)." [Al-Bukhari]

The solar and lunar eclipse (kosoof) prayer.
· It is better to be prayed in congregational prayer in the mosque as the prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did.

· It is prayed without Azan (call to prayer) or Iqama.

· It is a sunnah to prolong the recitation (of the holy Quran) during prayer.

· It is also a sunnah to prolong the bowing and prostration.

· The Imam delivers two khuttba (sermon) after prayer.

Invoke Allah

Remember Allah and Praise Him

Magnify Him and Glorify Him

Say Takbeer

Give Charity

Don't just consider it as just a natural event or known simple event... Let's follow the footsteps of Rasollullah to be among the successful 🤲🏻🤲🏻

You will be beautiful as the full Moon💌 May Allah accept our Good deeds 🤲

"The first group to enter Paradise will be as beautiful as the full moon. They will not spit, blow their noses or excrete. Their vessels will be fo gold, their combs of gold and silver, their incense o aloe, and their sweat of musk. Each of them will have two wives, the marrow of whose leg-bones will be visible through their flesh because of their extreme beauty. There will be no differences or hatred among them (the people of Paradise); their hearts will be as one, and they will glorify Allah (swt) morning and evening".

Importance of learning the Seerah of ProphetMuhammad ﷺ ?

Allaah SubhaanaHu wa Ta'ala Says, "Indeed in the Messenger of Allaah (Muhammad ﷺ) you have a good example to follow for him who hopes in (the Meeting with) Allaah and the Last Day and remembers Allaah much". [Al-Ahzab, Ayah 21]

A few benefits of studying the Seerah may be summarised as follows: (By Shaykh Arshad Abu Jafar

1. Seerah is an explanation of how to live Islam and apply it correctly. If one seeks to understand the Quran, it is necessary to study the Seerah.

2. The more you know about a person, the more you love them. When we study the Seerah of the Prophet (ﷺ), we love him more, and respect him on a deeper level.

3. Strengthening our belief and resolve. Knowing the status of who we are following will prevent doubts from entering our hearts.

4. Beyond purely Islamic lessons, the Seerah is filled with wisdom and morals. It teaches us how to interact in a smart and constructive way with those who love us, those who hate us, those who are close to us, those who have rights upon us, those who are less fortunate than us, and so on. The Seerah is applicable in many situations.

5. Similar to the previous point, the Seerah is a rich source of guidance for all members of society because the Prophet (ﷺ) fulfilled many roles simultaneously and balanced them perfectly. In modern terms, he (ﷺ) was a father, husband, political leader, counsellor in all affairs, teacher of Quran and fiqh, devout worshipper in his own time, and so on and so forth. As a result, everyone can learn something from the Seerah.

May Allaah help us learn more about our Prophet (ﷺ) and emulate his example in each and every field of life.
