10 requirement of proper dress and adornment for Muslim women
Our religion is that which has been transmitted to us through the Prophet Mohammed (saws), his companions and our pious predecessors. A careful study of relevant Qur'anic ayat (verses) and Hadith (Prophetic traditions), along with the works of our pious predecessors, will reveal a strict emphasis on the need for women to observe modesty in their dress when they appear in public, by covering all of their bodies and any ornaments or other means of beautification they might wear.
Allah the Exalted says in Surat an-Noor, ayah 31:
And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and guard their private parts and not show of their adornment except only that which is apparent, and draw their veils over their (necks and) bosoms and not reveal their adornment except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands' fathers, their sons, their husbands' sons, their brothers, or their brothers' sons, or their sisters' sons, or their women, or their slaves, or male servants who lack vigor, or small children who have no knowledge of women's private parts. And let them not stamp their feet so as to reveal what they hide of their adornment. And turn you all to Allah in repentance, O believers, that you may be successful.
And He says in Surat al-Ahzab, ayah 59:
Oh Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their outer garments close around them. That will be better, that they may be known and so not be bothered. And Allah is oft-forgiving, most merciful.
From these two ayat of the Noble Qur'an and from the authentic sources of guidance provided for us, we can derive the following principles of proper dress and adornment for Muslim women:
1st Requirement: The outer garment worn in public must cover all of the body except the face and hands
The first bit of guidance given in Islam describes the parts of the body which must be covered in public.
Surat an-Noor, ayah 31 (quoted above) contains a clear command that a woman's natural beauty and her adornment are to be concealed from strangers, except that which might show unintentionally (i.e. parts of the dress or ornaments) or which show as a matter of course because it is not prohibited that they be shown (i.e. the face and the hands).
Abu Dawud narrated that 'A'ishah said:
Asma came to see the Messenger of Allah (saws). She was wearing a thin dress; the Prophet (saws) turned away from her and said to her: "O Asma, once a woman reaches the age of puberty no part of her body should be uncovered except her face and hands."
For Women: In general, standards of modesty call for a woman to cover her body, particularly her chest. The Quran calls for women to "draw their head-coverings over their chests" (24:30-31), and the Prophet Muhammad instructed that women should cover their bodies except for their face and hands. Most Muslims interpret this to require head coverings for women, although some Muslim women, especially those of more conservative branches of Islam, cover the entire body, including the face and/or hands, with a full body chador.
For Men: The minimum amount to be covered on the body is between the navel and the knee. It should be noted, though, that a bare chest would be frowned upon in situations where it draws attention.
2nd Requirement: Looseness
Islam also guides that clothing must be loose enough so as not to outline or distinguish the shape of the body. Skin-tight, body-hugging clothes are discouraged for both men and women. When in public, some women wear a light cloak over their personal clothing as a convenient way to hide the curves of the body. In many predominantly Muslim countries, men's traditional dress is somewhat like a loose robe, covering the body from the neck to the ankles.
3rd Requirement: Thickness
The Prophet Muhammad once warned that in later generations, there would be people "who are dressed yet naked." See-through clothing is not modest, for either men or women. The clothing must be thick enough so that the color of the skin it covers is not visible, nor the shape of the body underneath.
4th Requirement: Overall Appearance
The overall appearance of a person should be dignified and modest. Shiny, flashy clothing may technically meet the above requirements for exposure of the body, but it defeats the purpose of overall modesty and is therefore discouraged.
5th Requirement: Not Imitating Other Faiths
Islam encourages people to be proud of who they are. Muslims should look like Muslims and not like mere imitations of people of other faiths around them. Women should be proud of their femininity and not dress like men. And men should be proud of their masculinity and not try to imitate women in their dress. For this reason, Muslim men are forbidden from wearing gold or silk, as these are considered feminine accessories.
6th Requirement: Decent But Not Flashy
The Quran instructs that clothing is meant to cover our private areas and be an adornment (Quran 7:26). Clothing worn by Muslims should be clean and decent, neither excessively fancy nor ragged. One should not dress in a manner intended to gain the admiration or sympathy of others.
7th Requirement: The clothes of Muslim women should not resemble men's clothes.
Abu Hurairah said that:The Messenger of Allah (saws) cursed the man who wears women's clothes and the woman who wears men's clothes.Ibn Umar said that he heard the Messenger of Allah (saws) say: He is not of us who imitates women nor is he of us who imitates men."Al Hakim
Abdullah Ibn Umar reported that the Prophet (saws) said:Three people will not enter paradise, and Allah will not look at them on the day of Judgment: the one who is disobedient to his parents, the woman who imitates men and the ad-dayooth.Ahmad
Ad-dayooth is the man who permits women for whom he is responsible to engage in illicit sexual relations, or to display their beauty to strange men, thereby stimulating their sexual desires.
8th Requirement: Muslim women are not to wear perfume in public.
Abu Musa narrated that the Prophet (saws) said:
Any woman who wears perfume and passes by some people who smell her perfume is like one who commits fornication.
Abu Hurairah said that:A woman passed by him smelling strongly of scent. He called to her: "O slave of the powerful, are you going to the mosque?" She said that she was. He said: "Go back and wash it off. I heard the Messenger of Allah (saws) say: 'Any woman who goes to the mosque wearing perfume will not have her prayer accepted by Allah; first she should go back home and have a bath [to wash it off].'"
9th Requirement: Beyond the Clothing: Behaviors and Manners
Islamic clothing is but one aspect of modesty. More importantly, one must be modest in behavior, manners, speech, and appearance in public. The dress is only one aspect of the total being and one that merely reflects what is present on the inside of a person's heart.
10th Requirement :The clothing of Muslim women should not be ostentatious.
Ibn Umar reported that the Messenger of Allah (saws) said:He who dresses for ostentation in this world, Allah will dress him in a dress of humiliation on the Day of Judgment and set it on fire.Abu Dawud
Is Islamic Clothing Restrictive?
Islamic dress sometimes draws criticism from non-Muslims; however, dress requirements are not meant to be restrictive for either men or women. Most Muslims who wear a modest dress do not find it impractical in any way, and they are able to easily continue with their activities in all levels and walks of life.
There are, however, some additional prohibitions regarding personal appearance of which our Muslim sisters should be aware. These prohibitions have to do with changes made to the appearance which are regarded as unacceptable alterations to Allah's creation, namely wearing wigs, plucking facial hair, filing teeth and getting tattoos.
Asma related that:
A woman asked the Prophet (saws):"Messenger of Allah, my daughter had smallpox, and as a result her hair fall out. She has recently been married; can I get her a wig?" He answered: " Allah has cursed the maker and wearer of a wig."
Abdullah said that Allah (swt) has cursed tattooers and those who are tattooed, and those women who have their teeth filed for beauty and those who have their hair plucked and thus alter Allah's creation.
A woman asked him: "What is all this?" He replied: "Should I not curse one whom Allah's Messenger has cursed? And it is in the Book of Allah." She said: I read the Qur'an from cover to cover but did not find that in it. "He said: If you had read it thoroughly you would have found it. Allah says "Whatever Allah's Messenger gives you, take it, and whatever he has forbidden, refrain from it Qur'an 69: 7
(Muslim)
Allah the Exalted says in Surat an-Noor, ayah 31:
And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and guard their private parts and not show of their adornment except only that which is apparent, and draw their veils over their (necks and) bosoms and not reveal their adornment except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands' fathers, their sons, their husbands' sons, their brothers, or their brothers' sons, or their sisters' sons, or their women, or their slaves, or male servants who lack vigor, or small children who have no knowledge of women's private parts. Maryam (as) (Mary the mother of Jesus ) in light of Islam !!
Assalamu Alaikum warahmathullahi wa barakathuhu,
Maryam (as)(Maryam bint Imran ) is a shining role model for all of us, both men and women. Allah most High chose Maryam(as) the mother of Isa over all the women of the world and gave her a special status.
Allah describes her as being among al qaniteen – the devoutly obedient.
˹There is˺ also ˹the example of˺ Mary, the daughter of ’Imrân, who guarded her chastity, so We breathed into her ˹womb˺ through Our angel ˹Gabriel˺.1 She testified to the words of her Lord and His Scriptures, and was one of the ˹sincerely˺ devout.
She was among the truthful and ones who believed Allah
I am writing this article first of all to empower my self and sisters who really needed this little motivation to improve their lives , while we as Muslim women are misguided by fake delusions of the world around us. And hopefully this article will help my sisters and brothers of other religion to understand the status of Maryam (alai) that Mary mother of Jesus in light of Islam. I am trying my best to mention few details using verses of Quran and hadeeths of prophet (PBUH).
The term Qanit (قانت), meaning one who humbly and continuously worships Allah, has been referred to both men and women in the Quran concerning virtuous servants of God. This term has been used about Maryam twice:
O Mary! Be devout to your Lord, prostrate yourself ˹in prayer˺ and bow along with those who bow down.”
She is the only woman mentioned by name in the Qur’an. Allah mentions her name even when He isn’t telling her story, since Allah repeatedly says ″Isa, son of Maryam’ in many places. She is far from forgotten - in fact, she is one of the most famous people in the history of humankind. On top of that, Sayyidatina Maryam was titled to be among the best women in both worlds; her story in the Quran is eternalised and would be read repeatedly as a virtuous example for many until the end of time.
She was among the best four women of the world
And ˹remember˺ when the angels said, “O Mary! Surely Allah has selected you, purified you, and chosen you over all women of the world.Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“From among the women of the world who have reached perfection and who are worthy of following are (the following four): Maryam the daughter of Imran; Khadijah daughter of Khuwaylid; Fatima daughter of Muhammad and Asiyah wife of Fir’aun” (Tirmidhi).
She was among the truthful and ones who believed Allah
Allah mentioned these characteristics of Maryam(as)
The Messiah, son of Mary, was no more than a messenger. ˹Many˺ messengers had ˹come and˺ gone before him. His mother was a woman of truth.(5:75)
She testified to the words of her Lord and His Scriptures, and was one of the ˹sincerely˺ devout.(66:12)
She also exemplifies the best of modesty for both men and women.
She was symbolic of her piety and modesty
As described in Surah Maryam ayat 16 to 34, when approached by an angel in the form of a well-proportioned man, she immediately sought refuge in Allah the most Merciful, symbolic of her piety and modesty.
After the birth of Jesus, Maryam (as) faced incredible hardship. Even though she was a young woman of faith, She was then accused of engaging in immoral acts that never once crossed or resided in her mind, and she still kept firm and trusted that Allah would prove her innocence and goodness would come out of this trial. When the townspeople surrounded and questioned her she followed God’s instructions and did not speak. Allah proved her innocence by a miracle performed by Prophet Isa a.s. when he verbally proved his mother’s innocence while he was still an infant.
Maryam (as) was placed in the care of Prophet Zakariyya (as), who was her uncle (the husband of her maternal aunt). This was because Hannah had vowed to ‘set her free’ so she could devote her life to serving the Masjid. [Tafseer Ibn Katheer]
Maryam’s(as)guardian Prophet Zakariya (as) built a space for her where she was constantly in remembrance of Allah. As Maryam (as) grew up, she naturally spent a lot of time in secluded worship. Closed away in her private prayer room, Zakariyya (as) was amazed that there was always food coming into the room; he found food that was out of season and when he asked where it came from,
she said “It is from Allah, Surely Allah provides for whoever He wills without limit (Surah al-Imran 3:37)
She was symbolic of her piety and modesty
As described in Surah Maryam ayat 16 to 34, when approached by an angel in the form of a well-proportioned man, she immediately sought refuge in Allah the most Merciful, symbolic of her piety and modesty.
Then We sent to her Our angel, ˹Gabriel,˺ appearing before her as a man, perfectly formed. She appealed, “I truly seek refuge in the Most Compassionate from you! ˹So leave me alone˺ if you are God-fearing.” (19:16 &17)Allah proved her innocence by a miracle performed by Prophet Isa a.s.

”O sister of Aaron! Your father was not a man of evil, nor your mother a woman unchaste!” But she pointed to the baby. They said: “How can we talk to one who is a child in the cradle?” He (the baby) said: “I am indeed a servant of Allah: He has given me revelation and made me a prophet.”(Surah Maryam, 19:28-30)

Few Reminders on how should one (Muslim) deal with snakes !!
Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuhu. This article was inspired when a friend of mine had a question related to snake during a session when we were sitting to remember Allah. As Muslims we really need to know what are We supposed to do when there is a snake. Most of us face such situation of encountering a snake at home , back yard, during cultivation, cleaning , gardening even during travelling etc; so what are we supposed to do in such situation, what does Islam says about it, Let us learn this in the light of Quran and Sunnah.
As for the fact that these snakes may harm people and may be poisonous, if their harm is feared, then the harm must be eliminated even by killing them from the first time (without warning). If they are of a kind known to be poisonous and it is feared that they would harm people, it is allowed to kill them. Al-Qurtubi (Rahmahullah) wrote about the command to warn snakes before killing them, "The command in this regard is not an obligation; if the harm is certain, it must be eliminated."
Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (Rahmahullah) said regarding killing the snake even if done in the first time, "He warns it three times by saying to it: I warn you not to be in my house, or similar words... If the snake attacked him, he has the right to ward it off, even if it leads to killing it as long as warding off its harm cannot be done except by killing it or its attack cannot be stopped except by killing it. It is allowed to kill it in this situation because it is considered self-defense."
So there is nothing wrong with you killing snakes that are outside the house and scholars agreed that snakes should not be warned if they are found in the desert if you feel unsafe from it. As for those that are found inside the house, they should not be killed until they have been warned.
The Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) enjoined the killing of snakes, and this is general in meaning and applies to all kinds of snakes, in any place. But if the snake is inside the house, it should not be killed until it has been warned three times; that is because of the possibility that it may be a jinn.
What does Islam say about People who says Do not kill Snake as it will revenge?
What does Islam say about People who says Do not kill Snake as it will revenge?
(5249) narrated that Ibn Mas‘ood said: The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Kill all the snakes, and whoever fears their revenge does not belong to me.”

It was narrated from Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that he heard the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) address the people from the minbar, saying: “Kill snakes.”
‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar said: After that, I would not leave any snake that I saw but I would kill it.Narrated by al-Bukhaari (3299) and Muslim (3233)
What do you do when you find a snake at your residence ?
Muslim (2233) narrated that Naafi‘ said: One day ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar was was at a ruin of his, when he saw the flash of a small snake. He said: Find this snake and kill it. Abu Lubaabah al-Ansaari said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) forbid killing the small snakes that live in houses, except the short-tailed snake and the one with two stripes, for they are the ones that cause blindness and miscarriages.
And Muslim (2236) narrated that Abu’s-Saa’ib said: We entered upon Abu Sa‘eed al-Khudri, and whilst we were sitting there, we heard a movement beneath the bed. We looked and saw a snake… and he quoted the hadith, in which it says: The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “These houses have inhabitants. If you see any of them, ask them to leave for three days. If it goes (all well and good), otherwise kill it, for it is a kaafir.”
Ibn ‘Abd al-Barr said:It is preferable that all snakes that are found in houses should be warned, as Maalik said. What is meant by warning is that the person who sees a snake in his house should say: I urge you, O snake, not to appear before us or harm us. End quote.
The Shaafi‘i scholar Ibn Hajar Al-Haytami (Rahmahullah) wrote, "As for the snakes that reside inside houses, they are not to be killed until they have been warned thrice. The scholars held different views as whether the intended meaning is three days or three times. The first is the view adopted by the majority of the scholars ... The most likely correct view is that warning (the harmless house snake) is recommended, though the statements of some Hanbali scholars suggested that it is obligatory..." Honor of Being a Student of Knowledge!!
Assalamu Alaikum warahmathullahi wa barakathuhu my dear readers (Brothers and Sisters in islam) I am writing this article as I find most of us are not aware of importance of seeking knowledge, If we ask someone among us to seek beneficial knowledge they say "we know how to pray, that is enough" and they ignore our request, some others they say it is not that important. Lets check how important it is to seek knowledge through the words of Allah and sayings of prophet Muhammad (pbuh).
“And those who strive in Our (cause), – We will certainly guide them to our Paths: For verily Allah is with those who do right” [Quran, 29:69].
God will raise up, by many degrees, those of you who believe and those who have been given knowledge: He is fully aware of what you do. [Qur’an, 58:11]

ECLIPS a Warning!!
Praise be to Allah who has bestowed on us the grace of the sun and moon, Peace be upon our prophet Muhammad the best of those who carried the message for human beings, and peace be upon his family, companions and upon all those who feared standing before their Lord....
What is the Islamic view on Eclipse?
Allah's Apostle said, "The sun and the moon are two signs amongst the signs of Allah. They do not eclipse because of someone's death or life. So when you see them, invoke Allah and pray till the eclipse is clear." [Agreed upon and this exact narration is for Muslim]
"The sun eclipsed at the life-time of Allah's Apostle on the day when (his son) Ibrahim died. So the people said that the sun had eclipsed because of the death of Ibrahim. Allah's Apostle said, "The sun and the moon do not eclipse because of the death or life (i.e. birth) of some-one. When you see the eclipse pray and invoke Allah." [Al-Bukhari]
He (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The sun and the moon are two of the signs of Allaah; they do not become eclipsed for the death or life of anyone. If you see that then call upon Allaah and magnify Him, and pray, and give in charity.”
When an eclipse happened, mumins would be afraid that is a warning of impending disaster, so they would turn to Allaah and pray to Him to ward off that which they feared. The scholars also explained that an eclipse may be a sign or a cause of something bad happening to people. People do not necessarily know of the events which Allaah causes to happen at the time of an eclipse, and some people may know about that whilst others do not ,but Surely Allah the creater of the universe is aware of everything.
Solar and lunar eclipses are two of the signs of Allaah with which He scares His slaves and reminds them of some of the things which will happen on the Day of Resurrection,
And the sight will be dazed, the moon will be eclipsed and the sun and moon will be joined together (by going into one another, or folded up, or deprived of their light) Man will say on that Day, "Where is the [place of] escape?" (al-Qiyaamah 75:8-9).
when the sun will be wound round and will lose its light and be overthrown and the stars will fall (cf. al-Takweer 81:1&2)
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to fear Allaah very much, and one day he came out in an agitated state, thinking that the Hour had begun, when the sun was eclipsed during his lifetime.
What is requested from every Muslim at the time solar or lunar eclipse?
Allah's Apostle said, "The sun and the moon do not eclipse because of the death or life (i.e. birth) of some-one. When you see the eclipse pray and invoke Allah." [Al-Bukhari]
In another narration:" so pray whenever you see them." [Narrated by Muslim]
"when you see the eclipse, remember Allah and say Takbir (to say Allah Akbar), pray and give Sadaqa (charity)." [Al-Bukhari]
The solar and lunar eclipse (kosoof) prayer.

The solar and lunar eclipse (kosoof) prayer.
· It is better to be prayed in congregational prayer in the mosque as the prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did.
· It is prayed without Azan (call to prayer) or Iqama.
· It is a sunnah to prolong the recitation (of the holy Quran) during prayer.
· It is also a sunnah to prolong the bowing and prostration.
· The Imam delivers two khuttba (sermon) after prayer.
Invoke Allah
Remember Allah and Praise Him
Magnify Him and Glorify Him
Say Takbeer
Give Charity
Don't just consider it as just a natural event or known simple event... Let's follow the footsteps of Rasollullah to be among the successful 🤲🏻🤲🏻
